SWT: Class 159 'Super Sprinter'
![]() | Class 159 'Super Sprinter' Built in 1991 to 1993 originally as part of the class 158 fleet, the class 159 were modified before entering passenger service for use on the West of England line. Since introduction, these three car units have been seen in Cardiff and Penzance on relief extras. To this day, one 159 visits Penzance every week. Currently the entire fleet is going through a mid life refurbishment programme, which includes reliability modifications and the installation of PIS as per the rest of the SWT fleet. The fleet was increased to 30 recently, when 8 additional three car class 158s were converted from their use on Transpennine Express (displaced upon the introduction of the class 185s). |
