SWT: Class 421 3-CIG "Slammer"

Class 159 'Super Sprinter'

Class 421 3-CIG

The Lymington slammers were built in the early 1970s by BREL in York and refurbished by South West Trains at Wimbledon depot in 2004. The units have since been retrofitted with central door locking, operated by magnetic plates on the doors.

Having their primary role on the Lymington line, milage is low and therefore you generally only find one unit every other week, occasionally, when both are failed a class 73 comes out to play operating in push pull on the line, the most notable event of this was in early September 2007 following low traction on 1497.
