SWT: Class 458 'Juniper'
![]() | Class 458 'Juniper' The much maligned class 458 fleet that South West Trains operate were the primary bugbear of the Reading line in the early '00s. Their reliability has an awful reputation and still do not have a high reliability. The units were built by Alstom in Washwood Heath (Birmingham) from 1999 to 2002, they were part of the first trains that should have complied with the draft disability discrimination act. As it stands, they were withdrawn due to having their on train displays being 3mm too short, but were re-introduced allowing the class 442 units to be withdrawn as part of the new Stagecoach South West Trains franchise. |
